For our client (a leading pharmaceutical organization) we are recruiting an Associate Scientist, Materials Science & Engineering (MS&E) to join the Analytical Sciences organization in Oss. In this role you will work hands-on with material characterization and packaging-related investigations that directly support manufacturing, QA/QC and technical operations—ranging from small investigations to full root cause investigations.
About the team
The MS&E team in Oss (12 employees) provides global support to internal and external manufacturing sites and quality functions. Investigations focus on drug products, APIs, excipients and packaging materials using a broad analytical toolbox, including:
- Imaging / material identification: SEM-EDX, FTIR, Raman, Optical Microscopy
- Powder characterization: PSD, bulk/tapped density, Flodex, water activity, Morphologi-4
- Thermal analysis / phase behavior: DSC, TGA, DVS
- Solid state analysis (via CRO): XRPD, Solid State NMR
- Packaging / mechanical testing: tensile & compression testing, X-ray inspection
What you’ll do
- Execute hands-on Materials Science & Engineering lab work to support MS&E projects and investigations, with a focus on extraneous matter and packaging topics.
- Use techniques such as SEM-EDX, FTIR, Raman, Optical Microscopy, tensile/compression testing and X-ray inspection.
- Support and assist MS&E in organizing and executing global Analytical Sciences laboratory activities within a pharmaceutical environment.
- Contribute to troubleshooting, structured problem solving and documentation in support of QA/QC and manufacturing needs.
- Write and support (technical) investigation reports with clear conclusions and data-based rationale.

What you bring
- Bachelor degree (HBO/BSc) with hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in Pharmaceutical / Physical / Chemical / Analytical Science.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of one or more of the listed techniques (e.g., SEM-EDX, FTIR, Raman, microscopy, mechanical testing).
- Experience with technical writing and documenting results (investigation reports).
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, take ownership, and perform well under time pressure.
- Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, manufacturing, testing and/or product investigations is a plus.
- Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Confident computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
